Alex, The Freedom Fighter

We started the day at the USCIS getting our fingerprints taken for the second time. It smoothly, we were in and out in about 30 minutes.
Afterwards, Alex and I headed for McDonald's and a breakfast date over hotcakes and sausage. We had the play place to ourselves until a lady arrived with her two Asian daughters. I am sitting there thinking that every person that we run into with Asian children must think that I am some kind of weirdo as I sat there trying not to look like I am watching everything that I do. I ended up talking to the woman and her daughters are from China and Vietnam. We talked for about 30 minutes. She was talking about all of the twins that have been referred lately and how she thinks they used to just separate them. I told here I had read an article about families that were finding the biology sisters of their daughters and SHE WAS ONE OF THE FAMILIES!!!! She said they are starting a database of DNA where children can possibly be matched with biological siblings. Alex played with her daughters while we talked and was excited because he has met some people that will be at the CNY party we are going to on Saturday. Hopefully meeting older kids will get the notion that Annika will speak Chinese when she starts to talk out of his head.
The discussion of the girl and her biological sister that David and I had at dinner included the word abandoned so Alex started asking all kinds of questions. Have you ever tried to explain something this complicated to a 6 year old?!?!? We explained to him that girls are abandoned because of the one child law that they have in China and we tried to explain how China is a communist country so it is very different than America. He decided the government MUST be replaced because it isn't fair and immediately started to think of ways to take it over. His biggest (and in my opinion, best) idea was to go over in land walkers because they can beat anything, plus they may not have wires to trip them in China. (He is currently VERY addicted to anything that is related to Star Wars.)

Austin (who will be six in May) thinks that Ryleigh speaks only Chinese and asks a lot "When will she speak English". I try to explain that she IS speaking English, but it's because she's only 2 that he can't understand everything. Very cute!!
