We're Wonderful

Okay, I have to get something off of my chest. It annoys the HECK out of me when we tell someone that we are adopting from China and they act like we are saving the world. I am sick of people telling me what a great thing we are doing by getting our daughter out of China. I have a friend that does this every single time I see her(which is becoming less and less). Can't we just want another child and have this as the avenue to get her without it being a rescue mission??? Don't they get that we just really want another child and that she will improve our lives as much as we improve hers???

We picked China for a number of different reasons: price, length of trip, (relative) stability of adoption program, ability to get an infant. (Also, the kids are just so darn cute, love that fuzzy baby hair and I've always been a sucker for big brown eyes!!!) It breaks my heart to know that there are numerous children in China that will never know what it is like to have loving parents, but there are children all over the world (including the US) in the same situation. A lot of the children are living in conditions that are probably a lot worse than those in China, too.

I have been trying to think of something to come back with when people go on and on and on about it. I don't want to be rude because they are being nice, but it is SOOO annoying.

I have always thought that too. Savers of the world adopt multiple children -I would think at once. Most people are just trying to get any healthy well adjusted child. People often ramble because they dont know what else to say. If your friend is driving you nuts take her aside and tell her. Other people that you dont know as well-- either dont bother to tell them or give them limited info-- "We are adopting a child." Leave out from where... I know that it can be aggrivating. These days personal comments and questions seem to be abundant and its nobody elses business! Best Wishes for your new family!
