I'm no expert (really)

In six days will be getting on an airplane to head half way around the world to get our baby girl. I have to tell you that I am so stinking excited that I can hardly stand myself. Sure, it will be great to finally have Annika with us, but WE'RE GOING TO CHINA!!!!!! When I was younger, I never in a million years would have thought that I would be going to China during my lifetime. I cannot wait to get there and see the Great Wall and the Forbidden City. Hopefully we will get to check out some panda's on the trip and we are planning on touring the Converse factory in Guangzhou while we are there as well.

I have to admit that I have not done as much research into Chinese history as I would liked to have done (you would think in 3 years I would have had time to pick up a few books that weren't trashy romance novels or some form of anatomy textbook!!). In fact this is the only book that I have read (yes it is a children's' book and yes it is heavily illustrated, but it was very informative and taught me alot in the 20 minutes it took to read it). Well, I also read a Magic Tree House book about the terra cotta warriors as well, so I guess that makes two books.

In addition, I have tried to catch every trip by Andrew Zimmerman and Anthony Bourdain to various areas of China (and any other Asian countries), one can never be too prepared for culinary adventures. I have also watched several programs on the history of the Great Wall, one program about building the Bird's Nest Olympic Stadium, and a couple episodes of Ni Hao, Kia-lan. I guess I should also throw the 5 or so times that I have watch Mulan and Mulan 2 with Alex on the list (plus we researched Mulan on the internet and tried to figure out if Chang was a real person or not; Mulan was pretty cool and no he wasn't real)

I plan to make up for my lack of knowledge with loads of enthusiasm and a willingness to learn by osmosis (as a science teacher, I know that osmosis is only the movement of water, but you get the idea). I plan to try new things (and hopefully not get sick because of them). I am planning to eat close to my weight in red bean paste products (heard they have bean paste pie at McDonald's, lets go!!!!!!) (Alex has made David promise to take pictures of me eating bean paste and then getting sick afterwards). And I am planning to lay more love on a little girl in Yifeng SWI than she has ever experience in her almost 8 months on this earth.
