What a Day

Well the big day finally came and it was great. I figured it was going to happen on Monday but still was holding out for Friday. The agency called David and he called me around 10:10. I was near the end of my block 2 biology class. I had talked to the students at the beginning of the block about what may be happening and warned them to not get between me and the phone (LOL). Everyone was busy when the phone rang but the room went silent and everyone turned to look at the phone. It only rang twice, but got disconnected for some reason when I picked it up. The kids laughed saying someone must be playing a joke. Then it rang again and the secretary said it was David. He told me he got the call and the birthday was 9-18-07. He didn't voluntarily tell me the gender, I had to ask a couple times "such a pain in the behind sometimes". Then we tried to figure out how old she is. Obviously (from my first post after the call) our calculations were off by 2 months. As soon as I hung up the phone I ran out of my room (yes before the end of class, they are fairly responsible kids) to tell everyone. Once that was done I posted to the blogs and emailed the faculty with the news. Then the bell finally rang so that I could leave. I have the 3rd block of the day and had made plans with my friend K to cover my last class so I could leave as soon as I got the call (We made these plans back in January). I hung out for a few more minutes, talked to some of the other science teachers, and then hit the road (leaving behind much of the work I needed to do this weekend, but I figure it won't get done anyway).

So then I was off to pick up Alex and then David and then ANNIKA!!!!! I called my immediate family and close friends on the drive. I was on the phone most of the way to David's office. I picked up Alex first. He was in gym and I got to go pick him up there. When I walked in he was very confused and I just kept asking him "Why would I be here to pick you up early?" Finally he got it and his face light up and he yelled "We are going to get Annika's referral picture". He told every person he knew on our way out of the school that he was going to get his baby sisters referral. He is still so excited. (He was also excited about getting to go to build a bear to make her a bear, but mainly about the picture). My sister had called while I was in getting Alex. By the time I got ahold of her, she was already at Wal-Mart baby shopping (this was only about 30 minutes after my original call to her). So, we picked up David, grabbed some lunch, and headed for the agency. Our meeting took about 15 minutes. Everyone agreed that she was adorable from the moment we layed eyes on her pictures. Her paperwork sounds like we may be getting ourselves quite the firecracker. We found out that we should get an update in about a week and will hopefully travel around May 22.

After the meeting we headed to the mall to hit Build A Bear (I will post a picture of the proud big brother later). We got a few clothes and had some cheesecake at the Cheesecake Factory to celebrate. Then it was home to do all the emails and scan the pictures.

I think I have looked at those pictures a thousand times already. Alex will even just sit and look at them (He is so cute, I could just cry, He is in love). David has them saved on his black berry and I have even caught him take sneak peek on the side. I bought myself a locket so that I can take her with me every place that I go. I didn't think that I would get attached to the picture, was pretty worried that I would not find her to be cute or anything like that. Well, she is Annika Lin, we finally have an Annika Lin and I can't bare to leave the house without some form of her picture with me. I can't wait to see her without all the layers. I think from the little glimpse of her hands in the pictures that she probably is not a pudgy baby, or wasn't when the pictures were taken. I can't wait to see how she has changed. I could go on forever about her but will stop for now. Need to get ready to go do some baby stuff. Gotta figure out what we will need for an 8 month old and go pick up the pictures that we sent to Wal-Mart.
