Tae Kwan Do, Crazy Teenagers, and Ant Farms

I have been such a slacker when it comes to blogging lately. I used to be so into it. I would post at least a few days a week, if not daily, and always felt like I had so much to say. Recently it just seems like there is not that much to write about. This post is basically just a bunch of stuff that is going on right now.

We have been keeping pretty busy around here. Alex has swimming on Mondays and has started Tae Kwon Do on Fridays at the Y. He loves swimming. He has been in lessons since February and has a goal of being on the swim team at the Y. He wouldn't even get into the water with out being attached to an adult before his first lesson, but once he jumped off the side for the first time, he was hooked and hasn't looked back. I have to say that Tae Kwon Do may have been a really good idea on our part. Alex can be a little (but usually alot) figidity and has trouble when it comes to self control. The instructor is starting to be a little more strict with him. I am hoping that this will help us with somethings we have been trying to change for quite awhile now.

I have been busy at school. After being out sick for 2 to 3 days a week for over a month, I have had to get my students used to having me back in the classroom. It is mainly only a problem in one class. They are the last class of the day and will always be a handful. There are alot of kids in that class that are just done with doing any kind of work by the end of the day. Unfortunately, they all got stuck into one class and, lucky me, I am their teacher. Most of the kids are good and hard working, but it only takes a couple to get the whole gang headed in the wrong direction and then watch out. Despite that class, I really like my job and all of the people that I work with. We have alot of fun together.

I finished all of our Christmas shopping on Monday. I am very excited because my sister was able to find a Wii (video game) for Alex. We discovered it over Thanksgiving weekend and then decided it should go on the top of the Santa list. We did not realize that it was impossible to get on though. My sister called the Wal-Mart where she lives and they just happened to have two left from the shipment that they had received that day so she high tailed it over and bought one for us. I think I may be more excited than Alex will be. Some of the games look like so much fun I can't wait to break it in.

I also got him something that I always wanted as a child: an ant farm. It is the fancy 50th anniversary, (fake) gold plated edition. One good thing about having children is you can buy them the things that you never got as a child (.i.e. hamster, sea monkeys, ant farm). I always wanted an ant farm but never got one because my mom was afraid that the ants would escape. After I left the house to go to college, she made me an ant kit one year for Christmas. It contained one small bell jar, a baggie of dirt, a magnifying glass, and a book about ants. (She has always been a smart aleck!! LOL)

I am not real jazzed about the weather up here right now. December 1st is Friday and we have been having temperatures in the 50s and 60s. This is NEW ENGLAND!!!! I did not move here to have balmy Novembers. I want cold!!!! I want wiping winds!!! A little snow would be nice also (so long as the road stay clear). It is really strange to have the Christmas decoration up and have it be 60 outside. I want to break out my heavy coat, scarf, and gloves. I want ot wear my warm, cozy Lands End all weather moccasin through puddles of slush.
(All of my New England readers are cursing me right now for wishing these things. David, who grew up in Panama, is loving it right now. He doesn't like winter too much so this weather is right up his alley.) They say we may see a small winter storm on Monday, I'm keeping my fingers crossed. BRING IT ON!!!!!!!!
