Misc Stuff

Wow, two posts in one day. This post is basically a bunch of crap that I have been thinking about today and wanted to share.

I finally feel like we are really adopting. I saw a woman at the store today with a Chinese daughter and almost wanted to cry. I really wanted to talk to her and ask if her daughter was adopted but the girl was like 3 or 4 and I refuse to ask in front of a kid that old. (If she was adopted) I'm sure that she probably knows, but I feel rude asking her mother about it when she is standing there. Plus I wasn't sure if she was adopted or the child of missed parents. Either way, she was really cute.

Speaking of Chinese children, I am so glad that I found the blogs that I frequent. It is so nice to be able to see people who have "survived" the process. It is also wonderful to be able to go to you blogs and see your beautiful children and know that we will be bringing someone just as cute into our household in the future.

I have decided that I am going to lie (or possibly not) to my family friends. I have started to tell people that our wait will be 12 months once our dossier gets to China just to save us the unwanted questions when 8 months roll around. They are all shocked and appalled when I tell them that we are going to have to wait that long just to get a picture of Annika. It is also preparing me to wait until 2007 (that seems so far away) so I will pleasantly ecstatic if the wait is shorter.

I kind of lied to Alex today about how Annika is getting here to join our family. We have not told him yet that we are traveling and he is staying home because he has no concept of time and would be afraid that we are leaving him everyday for the next year. Also, we haven't quite figured out how we are handling the whole travel thing with regards to him. This is the first time that he has asked about it and I wasn't sure quite what to say. He asked me who would bring her to us and I said I didn't know(truth). He wanted to know if it would be her caregiver(no idea where he got that word) and I said probably(again, truth). I just didn't mention that they would be bringing her to us someplace in China and not her at our local airport. He also asked if they would send her to us, I just said no and changed the subject. I may have mentioned this before, but he thought our friends' adopted daughter was mailed to them from Arizona. He kept asking me how she ate and after I couldn't answer him, finally said something about keeping extra bottles in the box.

I love "sightings". My husband travels a lot and he has them all the time and I'm so jealous! Last week he was at the airport and he saw a little girl, probably 5-6 with her father and, of course, was staring a bit. Dad didn't seem to pleased about this - probably thought Mark was a perv - and then started talking to him telling him about our story and the guy instantly opened up and they ended up talking for about 30 minutes. Community - it's a wonderful thing!
